Finally: Britain's Next Top Model, Season 1 Recap

I know I've been a bad little girl but I am FINALLY recapping BNTM season 1. :)

The models, in elimination order:

1. Marina: Too plain; cute for a normal girl but her face is too chubby to be a model. Looked like a cranky four-year-old in her elimination picture.
2. Claire: Pretty cute but GOD she needed a haircut! Her accent is so grating, also. I don't understand how it's possible to take a picture as bad as her elimination picture. She looked like she had a giant tumor on her side.
3. Shauna: Could rival Tyra's forehead. Not modelly at all, in my opinion. And her 'pear shape' - God, I probably weigh 50 pounds more than that girl and my ass doesn't even look like that! She never would have had the body to be a model anyway.
4. Anne: Beautiful! Needed a haircut but has an awesome face. She needed to get over the makeover. Her face is pretty enough to carry the short hair. I was glad to see that they addressed the melodrama from the start...Tyra. I was glad to see her go. Tashi said it best: that girl's a lunatic.
5. Hayley: Gorgeous but is already a little too old-looking. Also, she is too large and strangely-proportioned to be a model.
6. Marisa: Really good model look but it seems like that's not very important to her. It was definitely time for her to go. Why was she here if she had a chance before and blew it?
7. Stephanie: Kind of plain, but I like her eyes. However, her makeover was a great transformation. It actually made her look like a model! She started to get so gorgeous as the show went on. Her elimination photo wasn't perfect, but I think it could have been in a magazine. And I would rather have seen her in Milan than Tashi.
8. Naomi: Kind of reminded me of Marina. It looked like she had a Halloween wig on her head. Anyway, she may be a bitch, but she's gorgeous. Too bad that she was eliminated just because she's 5'7"! Pigford won at 5'6". And if they knew she was too short to begin with, why did they cast her?
9. Tashi: Sounds like a Spice Girl. Unique look but how she photographed turned me off. Her makeover weave needs a hell of a lot of care. In her frog prince picture, she looked exactly like the frog. She definitely should have gone instead of Stephanie. When she finally left, it was a breath of fresh air. She should have been gone a lot earlier.
10. Jenilee: Adorable voice but kind of plain looking. But her makeover was gorgeous! She definitely didn't blend into the background anymore. Why don't they do makeovers like that on ANTM? And I think she knows how to make a good impression; she's so cute! I was sooo upset that she didn't win.
11. Edwina: She's pretty but it seems like I've seen her face a million times. Also, I saw the episodes online, and this show doesn't even begin to break the ice as to how bitchy she was. I definitely don't think she deserved to be in the final three! Ugh!

Winner - Lucy: Cute but needs an insane image makeover. She wears weird-ass clothes. I think her personality was OK but I don't think she should have won. Le sigh.

Look forward for a season 2 recap!

A quick task

I have some good news - we may be getting a news/current events editor soon! This would mean that you'll be introduced to some interesting stories that I don't have the motivation to look up myself. We'll see how it plays out. :)

#7. Hitomi - "There Is"
genre: j-pop music video
price: free, available on YouTube

If you are well-versed on j-pop, or even if you're not (it stands for Japanese pop, in that case), this song cannot be missed. Beautiful visuals, gorgeous melody, great lyrics (learn Japanese, bitches! Or search for a translation online.) The jist of the story is that she's found love by allowing herself to go into the unknown. Please enjoy!

Return to Childhood...Sort of

#6. Various Artists - Various Songs - Various Languages
genre: music videos/cartoons
price: free, available on YouTube

So not only have I spent a lot of time today doing this, but also a LOT of time over the past few days! Be wary, if you begin you will not be able to stop. A few generous souls have uploaded Disney (and other animated) clips onto YouTube translated into various languages. Pretty much all you have to do is search for the song title and the language you want to hear it in and you can find it! Some highlights:

"Belle (Reprise)" from Beauty and the Beast in German
"Something There" from Beauty and the Beast in Cantonese
"Just Around the Riverbend" from Pocahontas in French Canadian, Japanese, and English
"Colors of the Wind" from Pocahontas in French and MULTI-LANGUAGE!!
"I'll Make a Man out of You" from Mulan in French
"Part of Your World (Reprise)" from The Little Mermaid in Bulgarian, English, and Dutch
"Part of Your World" from The Little Mermaid in Icelandic and German

OK go forth and let me know your favorites! Don't forget Anastasia, Thumbelina, The Lion King, etc. By the way, I admit a bias toward English, French, German, and Japanese (in that order) because I speak them (in that order).

Oh and just for fun, throw in "Beauty and the Beast" by Jump 5. And please don't hate me: I freely admit I am a teeniebopper at heart.
Raargh I'm tired, and technically this post is like an hour late, but it doesn't matter because I'm not going to give you any tasks tonight anyway. I just wanted to complain: there are bugs in my room. Millipedes and pill bugs and ucky walky things that beadily stare at me: "Whatcha gon' do, bitch? I rule this carpet! You can never sit on it naked in comfort again!" That's when I give them a toilet paper sandwich. Yeah, you know what's comin' for you: don't go crawlin' on my carpet! Unless you have big boobs. And are at least 5'8. Oh and are not a bug.

14.12.06

Hey babies. Quick update: I won't be posting my Top Model: British Invasion recap for a day or two because I was driving home for the holidays while it was playing. I had no fear, for I knew of the CW's luscious repeat schedule, and I do believe that my trusty DVR is taking care of it for me tonight, so no worries!

Today I'm in a music mood so I'll give you a couple mini-tasks to put you in good spirits

#5. Daughtry - "It's Not Over"
genre: rock music video
price: free, available on http://music.aol.com/artist/daughtry/815153/video (scroll down to
find the sessions @ aol video)

So even though I think Chris Daughtry's a hottie, I was skeptical about his Creed meets Nickelback singing style. But this song makes me happy. It's a sentiment I can empathize with and it gives motivation to something that I think is important in interpersonal relationships. And Chris is still a hottie! I liked the version they played on Ellen (yes, bitches, I watch Ellen) better, but I have no motivation to search for it on YouTube. If you are bored enough, be my guest.

#6. Ciara - "Promise"
genre: r&b music video
price: free, available on http://music.aol.com/artist/ciara/662408/video (scroll down to find
the video, not the live session)

The first time I watched this video, I thought it was really boring. Yeah, it's reminiscent of Janet Jackson and even Prince, two of my favorite artists, but I kept thinking, 'She could explore these hooks more.' But now I'm glad that she didn't - partly because it's been done before, and partly because it leaves me wanting more. Especially when she says, "'Cause ba-BY... ." It's gorgeous. So enjoy, and let me know what you think!

Good TV while all the other shows are on hiatus!

I admit it. I am an absolute TV junkie. Like, to the point where it cuts into my social life. But it's OK, because my TV families love me.

#4. America's Next Top Model: British Invasion
genre: reality TV
price: free, available Wednesdays on the CW at 8 pm

If you have ever seen America's Next Top Model, or even if you haven't, you know how absolutely glorifying it is to watch beautiful, catty girls competing in ridiculous challenges. I watched Britain's Next Top Model on BitTorrent and it was even more exciting than ANTM - funny accents! - so I can hardly contain myself for tonight. Recap to follow.
